Undergraduate Summer Research Opportunities

Students are provided opportunities for undergraduate studies in Molecular Neurobiology Research.(See photos of 2007 Summer Students)
The Center for Molecular Neurobiology provides research opportunities for undergraduate students throughout the state of Kentucky. The objective of this program is to encourage undergraduate students in Kentucky to consider a career in science. Students need to see and feel the research environment to be able to evaluate the possibilities. We provide students with a deeper appreciation of the nature of scientific research.

Students are placed in the laboratory of a professor-mentor which provides them with the chance to learn research methods and techniques and where they can become involved in the research program of their mentor. Group demonstrations of several of the more common experimental methods are provided. This is also an occasion to interact with other undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral students and professors and to see all levels of development of the research career in action. Students discuss what they have learned and what data they have collected at informal group meetings. Additional group meetings are used to provide students with information on higher education, graduate and professional degree programs and career advancement.
